This course is designed to introduce you to the principles and practices of effective science communication. Whether you're new to the field or looking to exercise your skills, this course will help you learn how to translate complex scientific ideas into accessible, engaging content for diverse audiences. 

Through video lessons, real-world examples, self-assessments, and hands-on activities, you'll explore core concepts such as audience awareness, multimedia formats, inclusive language, and overcoming communication challenges, gaining the confidence and tools to communicate science clearly and responsibly to the public.

    You can expect to spend 15-18 hours completing all of the elements of this course, including videos, readings, quizzes and the final assessment.

    The course is entirely self-directed, so you can complete it at a time and pace that works best for you. If you leave the course and come back at a later time, your course progress will be saved so you can pick up where you left off.

    On successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
    • Communicate the core principles of scientific communication: accuracy, accessibility, adaptability, clarity, inclusivity, context sensitivity, and participatory communication. 
    • Navigate the different genres that make up science communication.
    • Identify your audience and adapt content for everyday people to see and understand.    
    • Adapt specialized scientific or technical language for non-experts
    • Apply the various multimedia forms for science communication, understanding how and when to use them.
